Impact of Netflix on the Internet

Noted this in passing in the media:

I have no data about vividwireless specifically, but it stands to reason that this must be having some impact.

I was wondering this myself, I noticed Easter Weekend was pretty bad. Admittedly I am one of those netflix users. Is there any way to get data for Vivid? I know Netflix US have an ISP Index that measures average speed for each isp and data is released monthly.

I came across this article today, and thought it seems quite similar to what dylo described above - a list of providers in Australia and the average speed users receive. I'm not a big fan of the publisher in general so I'm not entirely confident in the accuracy of the data, but the results, if correct, are pretty dismal.

Meure, this is an article that appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald on 11/5/15, where that data also appeared (maybe first). The article also shows data from various USA - ISP's.

Just a wide side note, CNN has an article about a Chinese version of Netflix called Letv, that plans to invade the US streaming service market.

Netflix has been unusble the last 2 nights in Warnbro on Vivid. Only plays for about a minute before it stops. Vivid connection was stable, speed was fine.

Switched to my Telstra 3G mobile internet sharing. Worked flawlessly :/

Support could only help by advising it was de-priorised during peak. Pretty poor considering thats when people actually watch Netflix etc

A slower, more congested Telstra connection has no problems.

If that is the case (i.e. that it has been deprioritised at peak times), then there will be nothing that can be done to improve the performance, other than maybe by trying to run it through a VPN? A lot of ISPs have had trouble with the bandwidth demands of Netflix and similar services. Its not just the bandwidth from the ISP to the wider Internet either; vivid's network uses wireless backhaul heavily between chains of towers, so those links may also be getting stressed by the extra traffic. So if Netflix is really important to you, then you may need to look at other ISPs rather than vivid?

Have a look at this Chromecast setup guide website: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6006232?hl=en&ref_topic=305...

What type of Vividwireless modem do you have (Home Gateway, ViViFi).

If the chromecast website does not help you connect, I can only suggest contacting tech Support - 1300 32 78 37, unless someone knows how to resolve.
