Wow, I'd never even heard of a MicroSIM before now (I'm not an Apple sort of person!). Short answer is "I've not heard it mentioned anywhere, either inside Vivid or outside it until now". But I'm happy to take the suggestion on board and will put it to Vivid the next time I send them feedback from here.

If other people are interested in this technology, feel free to post here and add your name to the list of those who would potentially use it if it became available.

As a matter of personal interest, what other connectivity options do you have on an iPad? I assume that it does wireless networking of some kind (e.g. 802.11b/g perhaps?). Does it also have an ethernet network socket?

Not to sound like a negative person... but the IPAD supports HSDPA and not WiMAX. This means that vivid would also have to operate a 3G network.. and that kind of seems like a step in the wrong direction. Also... WiMAX doesnt use sim cards of any kind... it works off the MAC address of the device. Thus the device must be WiMAX compatible.

Stephen: I believe the iPad does support 802.11b/g, not sure about n. As far as I'm aware, it doesn't have any Ethernet/USB ports, it only has that power socket.

chemicalraptor is spot on with the technicals ... that's basically the exact some answer that Vivid just gave me (about the MAC addressing). So the answer to the initial question is now definitely a "No".

Voytek, thanks for the added info. I've only seen one iPad in passing, on the train, and it looked pretty silly actually (but I'm a technology skeptic these days!).
