Connection dropouts and interruptions

I've been having issues the last week or so now with the connection dropping and being interrupted unexpectedly despite having strong signal feed. When the interruption and connection dropouts happen I got no choice but to power down the router from the plug socket, because I am unable to login to the router with Ethernet cable because it tells me it can't be reached.

ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE

I can get to the login page, but when I go to try to login it gives me that error afterwards.

I think it's still related to this error here which shows up in the router logs after being booted up.

daemon.warn zebra[1134]: warning: interface wmx0 broadcast addr xx.x.xx.255/8 != calculated xx.255.255.255, routing protocols may malfunction

for security reasons I've blocked out the real IP address. Within the last week or so I've been noticing instability in the connection, where trying to watch a streamed video would be constantly interrupted with buffering, and just within the last few days or so connection has been dropping out completely. If I were able to login to the router to check the logs I could see what is going on to give more information, but since the above said error with address being unreachable on a direct connected Ethernet cable that is not possible for me to login and read the last few lines of the log file.

Update** I think I found something that relates to my said error with connection dropping out and address not being reachable. For some reason UDHCPD is terminating on itself for no reason. The connection interrupts are happening instantly after a successful boot up now, it's gotten worse for no reason and instantly dropping the connection because it's being fed SIGTERM for no reason on local0.

Aug 11 12:12:47 mt71x9 local0.info udhcpd[1067]: Received a SIGTERM

Update 2**

Connection is intermittently dropping over Ethernet cable, however I'm still able to be connected over Wi-Fi. I have done a full router reset and it still has disconnections and interruptions. I still do not get why this problem just suddenly appeared today of all days to just keep dropping out like this. I really feel like I should just order for a replacement unit if this keeps up.

I think I'll just have to order for a new router, cuz this one just won't stop disconnecting me while connected on Ethernet cable. Who can I contact for a replacement of my device?

Sounds like you need to contact Tech Support regarding the problem and if a replacement is necessary.

You might also want to trawl through this long thread:

http://forum.vividwireless.com.au/forum/technical-support/losing-connect...

Someone was having the same issues as you. Initial thoughts were around there being a firmware issue, but the customer was already on v1.4.4 (latest). We then arranged a modem swapout.

I can probably say as person said in Post #4 in that thread is the same thing that's actually happening with my device, none of the lights are flashing, but a steady solid light.

I did a ping of the router and I got this;

ping -c4 192.168.1.1
PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.168.1.100 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.100 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.100 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.100 icmp_seq=4 Destination Host Unreachable

--- 192.168.1.1 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 0 received, +4 errors, 100% packet loss, time 3009ms

ping -c4 vividwireless.com.au
ping: unknown host vividwireless.com.au

it seems to follow on that the issue with the router connection on the ethernet port is failing. I only ever have 1 laptop connected via Ethernet, and 3 other devices connected via Wi-Fi, they don't seem to experience any disruptions, so my analysis would conclude that something is up on the router if it's failing to keep a connection stable, as to my previous mention of the error that showed up in the logs relating to udhcpd recieving SIGTERM. I don't believe there to be anything wrong with the ethernet port on the laptop, as I tried connecting to another computer with direct Ethernet plugged in and the connection flows with no problem.

Further detailed information on Ethernet connection vs Wi-Fi connection if this gives any insight to what's going on;

So I contacted Tech Support earlier today, and they'll be sending out a replacement device and should receive it sometime soon, I forgot what date to expect it between, but nevertheless… I explained that the router was faulty with the Ethernet ports, LAN1 and LAN2, didn't matter which port on the hub I plug it into it still experienced the same disconnection and instability problem.

Is it really 192.168.1.100 ? (usually would expect 192.168.1.1 ... unless it was manually changed)

Have been with vivid wireless for over 5 years as that is the only option due to living in an apparent drop out zone in Bennett Springs (originally West Swan)

We have been unable to receive any connection for 4 days being Friday 3rd June to 6th June, also we have ongoing problems with connection having to basically spend hours moving the modem all over the house, even opting to put it outside on sunny days, under cover of course.

The modem shows 2 bars which are green, but the orange wifi freezes and does not flash, not sure if it is meant to but im constantly having to turn the modem off and turn back on.

What confuses me is that i have taken a video of the internet speeds which at a certain time of the night reach over 400, as for the rest of the time we are lucky is we get 0.1.

I understand that the internet will differ due to large volumes of people connecting but we are sick and tired of spending literally all our time trying to get a signal.

If I need to send an email I have to use my phone.

ps obviously now it is working but wont last long

@bj, You would be best to speak with Tech Support about this, as it may be a one off with your connection or might affect others in your area. There have been a lot of Planned and Unplanned outages in Perth, and the work carried out may have affected your connection.

Let us know what Tech Support have advised. If it gets more in depth, we will have you start a new topic as it is easier to follow.
