FAQ -- remote administration of modem possible?

Q. is it possible to to perform remote administration on the modem (e.g. via a secure connection) or do you have to be on the local network?

A. no, there are no remote administration capabilities with the LTE modem. You need to be connected to the local network, either via an ethernet cable or WiFi.

If you have some understanding of networking and port forwarding, then you could conceivably set up a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection by forwarding port 3389 to a computer inside the network, however this would present significant security risks.

That approach cannot be recommended for beginners, as it would need to be accompanied by setting highly-secure passwords for all accounts on the target computer, plus configuration of advanced firewall settings . You would need to know in advance what IP Address the incoming connections will come from, otherwise the computer would be exposed to the entire range of internet addresses.
