hosting own website

A simple question, and one that probably already has an answer. I'd like to find the answer to my question the lazy way.

Can you host your own website, using a server software from your own computer, using your Vividwireless account?

I know how to do it, I just want to know if you're allowed to do it?.. Without getting onto trouble.

I think the answer to your question is a definite maybe. It is permitted as far as I know, although it would be wise to point out that vividwireless is a consumer product and isn't designed for this kind of usage. There are a few things that you would need to do for this to work.

* determine whether it is even possible to bring port 80 and/or port 443 traffic in from the Internet and route it to a computer inside the network; on the old WiMAX modems I recall that port 80 was a problem, however I've never tried this with the new LTE modems.

Try port forwarding (NAT) and see what happens? If that's no good, perhaps the DMZ functionality of the modem will do the trick (basically define a different network segment for your web server to run in).

* Dynamic DNS

* something out of left field: if you are getting IP Addresses in the range, be aware that in the past these addresses were sometimes subject to blocking by some upstream ISPs

All that said, would I recommend doing it? I'd suggest not, unless you are just planning on experimenting and tinkering, not trying to do something serious.

Thanks Frosty,

My intention is not to host any kind of business or profit from posting a website. I'm curious as to whether or not its possible to host a website and further my understanding of the technical requirement in doing so.

Thanks for the heads up with regard to the technical considerations.

Kind regards
