Too Slow

Thursday, 13th September 2018

Google Speedtest results:

0.73 Mbps download
0.85 Mbps upload

Latency 54ms (deceptive due to ping time outs)
Server: Sydney

Your internet speed is very slow

These sorts of speeds are becoming more and more common in my location Aspley, Brisbane. Unusable internet quality during peak hours :'(

Just looked at the Optus Network Status map, that shows a tower south of Aspley, towards Chermside that has been having maintenance work done that ends tomorrow 14/9. When a tower either has a problem or work done on it, customers are connected to the next best tower by the modem, and this can cause congestion and slow speeds.

Speedtest.net is used to test download and upload speeds to be more accurate. From your Google speed results you would expect slow speeds if you are connecting to a server in Sydney,

If you still have the problem, I suggest you speak with Support and let them look at your connection - 1300 327 837

Hello,

Yes I am have the same issue.

I normally get 7-9Mbps.
But today it dropped to an all time low 1.79Mbps.

I want answers too, We just had our towers updated at 4017 Bracken Ridge.

So please explain what's happening to your service?

Cheers,

I'm at Stafford Heights and the speed is disgraceful 1Mbps and 44ms ping. This way under the advertised rates. It is almost unuseable.

South of Sydney 11MB download has dropped to 1.5. If this is a joke it's not a good one!

I'm getting some terrible connectivity at the moment in Willoughby.

I've tried to reboot my router several times and even did a hard cycle, still no improvement.

If you want to check for possible outages in your area, there is an Optus network faults map here:

https://www.optus.com.au/about/network/service-status

Willoughby 2068 shows 3 nearby towers undergoing maintenance.

Stafford Heights 4053 on the other hand doesn't show any problems; I've recommend you contact vividwireless technical support if performance is markedly worse than usual, as there may be a fault that is not yet recognised. You'll need to go through their troubleshooting procedure (move the modem around, etc).
