Alternative 4G Modem

Hi there,

I am at a loss as to why it is not possible to use a different 4G Modem with Vivid Wireless. Sadly all I am getting from the Philippines call centre is a regimented "No actually sir it is not possible". I used to get a much better explanation for technical matters when they had an Australia call centre.

The local head office number does not pick up. It feels like I am talking to a brick wall. No one seems capable of giving a detailed explanation or simply does not care.

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris,

I can confirm that it is technically not possible with the current configuration of the vividwireless network.

My recollection is that a number of checks take place when a modem tries to connect. You need to have a vividwireless SIM in a vividwireless-supplied modem, so I would expect that they are looking at things such as the modem's MAC address, the hardware and firmware of the modem, and so on.

We know that they upgrade modem firmware over-the-network, not via files that you download from their website, so that confirms that they know what hardware and firmware the client modems are running.

I would expect that they are very restrictive in order to severely limit the number of client configurations they have to support, and this in turn helps them keep support costs down.
