Discord and other websites

Just swapped from Optus to Vivid and now can't access Discord and some other sites because "The DNS server isn't responding" or "server IP address could not be found".

Any reason why Discord and other sites are being blocked by vivid?

What are some of the website addresses that you are having problems with, and I will see if I have the same problem.

What Suburb/Postcode are you in?

I have also been having problems all day with my access to certain websites.

One in particular has been au.boohoo.com - coming up with "server IP address could not be found".
The website works fine on other providers or through proxy.

The rest of my email and internet access has been slow.

And now I am finding that my wifi reception is cutting out every minute or so, making it impossible to do anything on the internet. Having to use a connection through my phone to message this.

I am based in 2223.

I'm in Alexandria 2015 and I initially tried the address through the browser and it just hung. So I ran a Trace on each address and the following results were returned.

tracert https://discordapp.com/
Unable to resolve target system name https://discordapp.com/.

tracert https://www.namecheap.com/
Unable to resolve target system name https://www.namecheap.com/.

tracert https://www.cloudflare.com/
Unable to resolve target system name https://www.cloudflare.com/.

tracert https://www.friendlife.us/
Unable to resolve target system name https://www.friendlife.us/.

tracert https://www.quizlycious.com/
Unable to resolve target system name https://www.quizlycious.com/.

On the Optus Network Status map shows no problems with the towers in Penrith.

My only suggestion is to speak with Tech Support 1300 327 837

Hello, Me too *sigh*

DNS errors everywhere. Casula, NSW.

I advise changing to Google's DNS until a fix is found

@elladoyle,

just checked the Optus Network Map and it shows a tower near Pacific Harbour Golf & Country Club that has a problem. As there are not many towers in the area, it is easy for congestion at the tower(s) which will effect speed and connections.

You can check the map by clicking on this link: https://www.optus.com.au/about/network/service-status

Click on the Outage Tab and insert your Suburb/Postcode. Expand the map and click on the Red Icon for more info.

You can also contact Tech Support on the info in Post #4.

if the problem continues, I would suggest starting your own topic as having different users under one topic makes it difficult to follow.

Also having trouble in Hornsby, 2077
Discord was definitely working fine last night.
Haven't been able to get online since I started trying about an hour and a half ago.

Edit: My closest 7 towers on the optus site all show green, and it's not my internet that has the problem, it's just specific sites that are not working.

Had this problem too.

The DNS server Vividwireless is using is having some problems. Unfortunately the Vividwireless modem/router does not allow you to set an alternate DNS server.

What you can do is you need to configure your devices to use static IP instead of DHCP. This can be done under "advance" setting in your wifi setting normally.

set the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google).

I just tested now (6:30am Melbourne time) and am not having any trouble with Discord. A site I often access with a Discord chat:

https://www.chess.com/computer-chess-championship

Also tried a few of the URLs posted above (e.g. https://discordapp.com/) and it was working fine.

Can anyone confirm that the problem is now resolved? (just so I can be sure it's not just a particular region affected)

I am having similar issues in Eastwood NSW.

I can get to some sites but not others.

Some I can’t get to:
Whirlpool.net.au
RHBL.com.au
Wordfinders.com

I can confirm discord is still a problem for me.
Gave customer support a call last night, and they told me to specify the Google DNS servers as well. Instead of it fixing anything it said I no longer had an internet connection, and nothing worked instead of just specific sites.
Hoping to hear back from customer support today.

@dezzy94, I'm in Sydney and I was able to open 4 of the 5 websites you provided above. The website I could not open was https://www.cloudflare.com/ . Browser gave message "could not reach this page".

Whatever the main problem was with the other 4 websites last night seems to have resolved itself.

@Adrian, I was also able to get to the 3 websites you posted above..

In NSW, Marrickville 2204. Can't access few sites such as
transferwise.com
yesstyle.com

My nearest tower is green. Some other sites are fine. But the 5 listed above with discord and cloudflare didn't work either

Just started acting up yesterday. It was fine the day prior

EDIT: Changing the DNS to google works. Cheers!

Same same in Paddington Brisbane.

Sites include feedly.com

Swapped DNS to google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 on both desktop and iPad.

Disappointed Vivid do not seem to be doing anything other than denying it.

Please escalate.

Not tower related as once DNS is changed no issues remain.

I’m sure different people will experience different unreachable sites. Just because you can get does not mean op was not (and maybe still can’t) access it.

@Chipili,

"I’m sure different people will experience different unreachable sites. Just because you can get does not mean op was not (and maybe still can’t) access it."

I did the testing as per Frosty's post #10, if the problem was firstly fixed or not, or if it was regional, thus my post and results. The more information Frosty has is better when he is able to raise with his contacts at Vividwireless.

If you have not already contacted Support, the more people who do will be better, especially from completely different areas and States.

Can anyone else confirm that things are back to normal?
Seems to be a mix of reports above.

If anyone is having a problem, on a Windows computer trying running a command line (CMD) and then:

ipconfig /flushdns

That will clear the DNS cache and new queries will get the address from the nominated DNS server (just in case a dodgy address is in your cache pointing to something that no longer exists).
