Variable Download Speeds

I have been with Vividwireless for only one month. On speed tests my DL speed can vary considerably from one moment to the next. I can perform a test and get 10Mbps and immediately retest and get 1.25Mbps. Is this normal or should I get reasonably consistent DL speeds? I understand congestion and make allowances for peak times but I perform these tests at all hours of the day and night and they always vary considerably. I have even done a few tests on different days before 5:00am when I consider there would be no congestion and surprised that I only get 1-2 Mbps, then perform the test again immediately and get 7- 10 Mbps and vice versa. What’s going on?

Alan, from the stats that you have posted, without knowing, I would say there could be one or more towers that either has a problem or is having maintenance done by Optus. When this occurs, customers who normally connect to these towers are then transferred to another tower (one you connect to) by the modem and that causes congestion at any time of the day, which affects speeds and connections.

What Suburb/Postcode are you in?

Another question … are you the only user of your vividwireless service, or are there other people in the house also using it? Just once device, or multiple devices using the bandwidth?

Postcode is 2158. Dural, not Middle Dural. Just my wife and me using iPads for web browsing. Sometimes a printer, smart TV and foxtel on stanby. My download tests are never done when the TV or Foxtel are streaming/downloading. Oh and my solar panels are connected to the internet 24/7 to share data with my provider.

I understand your suggestion about customers being tranfererred from one tower to the next but congestion at 5:00am, really? Do Vividwireless customers share the same space on the towers as 4g mobile users or are they seperate tranceivers? Thanks for your help

Showing on the Optus Network Status map, there are 4 towers to the South of Dural that have a problem. 2 towers near intersection of New Line Rd & Shepherds Drive, and another 2 towers near the intersection of Showground Rd and Green Rd. Any tower that has a problem, the maintenance is done by Optus, not Vividwireless.

The towers near to Dural itself don't have a problem with the towers, but they would be carrying more connections then normal due to the other 4 towers that have a problem. Those 4 towers may not be as near to you, but congestion has a flow on affect as towers become congested. Which is why I previously mentioned any time of day, even at 5am.

You can contact Vividwireless Support and ask them to look at your connection
