Vivid migration to optus

I have a question in relation to the move from Vivid wireless to Optus.

I read in the FAQ's that the IP address will now become private, how will this impact port forwarding services from the internet will there still be an option to do this?

I have copied the following from the FAQ on the transfer across to Optus.

What will be the impact from the change from public to private IP addresses?

A: It is expected that only a small number of customers will be impacted by this change which affects certain local network set ups for some devices and applications such as some security cameras or specialised servers such as mail servers.
Customers should review their local network requirements and settings or consult a computer / network specialist. Most likely, whoever set up the original local network with such specialised devices or applications will be a good point of contact.
This change should not impact regular devices or applications such as PCs, tablets, mobile phones, games consoles.

This is the link to the FAQ:

If you still need more information, I would suggest speaking with Vividwireless Tech Support to answer further questions you may have.

If that is how you read the FAQ, I don't know the answer to your question, I'm not sure Frosty would know with his technical experience, as he cannot test the scenario. Which is why I mentioned talking with Tech Support.

For your info, Frosty and Myself don't work for Vividwireless. Frosty is contracted to look after the Forum, and I am a long time customer of Vividwireless and the former Unwired who has been assisting Frosty with the forum. We don't have access to all the technical stuff that might be affected by the transfer to Optus.

With a private IP address, which will be in one of the following ranges: /8 /12 /16

you won't be able to do any port forwarding directly; to access your home network from the Internet, you would require a public IP address.

You might be able to achieve this by adding a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service, at extra cost, from a third-party provider. Some of them have the ability to add a port-forwarding function.

e.g. you add the VPN, that then gives you a public IP at the VPN company, then you port-forward traffic from there into your private network.
